RFF HAS RETIRED

The first and only event of its kind, the Robot Film Festival was an annual celebration of robots in film, founded in 2011 to inject artistry and playfulness into traditional robotic engineering and explore rising frontiers of human-machine relationships. The event featured screenings of invited films and juried selections from open-call submissions, live performances by robot entertainers, and a red-carpet awards ceremony.

The 9th and final Robot Film Festival was held at the Downtown Independent LA on August 4th, 2019. Its companion award ceremony — The Botskers — took place the prior night at MindshareLA’s robot-themed event.

After nine years, RFF became more than an annual event nurturing a community of creatives and engineers who explore, document, and invent the imaginative world of robotics, introducing creatives, technologists, and robot enthusiasts to each other across five cities: Portland (2018), Los Angeles (2019, 2017, 2016), Pittsburgh (2015), San Francisco (2014,2013), and NYC (2012, 2011).

Highlights of online video archives include music videos, research videos, robot-filmed short films, interviews with robot makers and more! As robots are entering our daily lives at an every increasing rate, this festival documents a period of time when looking at ALL of the new robot short films each year still felt tractable.

Great thanks to the team behind the Robot Film Festival, and its many supporters and participants!
